Artist Laila White works across multiple disciplines. Her dance solo “Don’t call me by my name” created for her by Antonio Quiles, starts with a blown up projection of striking self-portraits. These pave the way to a narrative space that the performer moves through with her commanding presence. Repeatedly, she reveals fragile moments of her history and yet keeps her secrets. This duality creates a story that goes beyond her personal biography and enriches the audience with another perspective.

Laila White (artist name) is from Algeria and is a dancer, choreographer, photographer and autodidactic visual artist. All of these disciplines together form her artistic language that she uses to bring her emotions and personal experiences on stage. Her creations address daily paradigms and thus challenge a multitude of forms of discriminatory social barriers.
